Yesterday we made it to Bruce Peninsula National Park. It extends into Lake Huron. The east has cliffs into Georgian Bay. You can go bouldering along the limestone cliffs. It is also home to 40 species of orchids. There are many different types of habitat, such as cedar swamps, lakes, old growth forest, alvars (which are limestone plains with little to no soil), beaches, caves and underground streams. One bird that can be found in Bruce Peninsula National Park is the turkey vulture. The turkey vulture soars with it's wings in "V" shape. It's wingspan is 1.7 - 1.8 m. Their lifespan is at least 17 years. Turkey vultures are 64 to 81 cm long and weigh 2 kg. They only eat carrion. Turkey vulture's have a featherless red head, which helps to distinguish it from the black vulture which has a featherless black head. The turkey vulture poops on its legs to cool down.
This photo is of a turkey vulture taken along the Chilliwack River.
We are 4534 km from Tofino!
Reminder we have a fundraiser going with Tru Earth for Birds Canada, 20% of orders placed with this link will come to us to be donated to Birds Canada.
You can also donate to our campaign for OWL Rehab and Birds Canada at any time here: https://www.canadahelps.org/en/pages/saving-the-birds/
I will order the laundry strips! Someone at OUV uses them and loves them..."they do the job and take up so little space". I posted your fundraiser and link on the OUV Slack workspace...hope that's OK!
