Manitoulin Bird

Today I will tell you about the ruby-throated hummingbird, which is one of Manitoulin Island's birds. I am telling you about a Manitoulin Island bird, because we got to Manitoulin Island. Let me begin...

The ruby-throated hummingbird is 9 cm long. It has a wingspan of 11 cm. It weighs 2 to 6 g. A loonie weighs 6 g! It's called a ruby-throated hummingbird, because the male has a ruby throat. They eat mostly bugs and nectar.

This is a photo of the male ruby-throated hummingbird taken from allaboutbirds.org as there are no ruby-throated hummingbirds around the BC south coast.

We are 4481 km from Tofino!

Reminder we have a fundraiser going with Tru Earth for Birds Canada, 20% of orders placed with this link will come to us to be donated to Birds Canada.

You can also donate to our campaign for OWL Rehab and Birds Canada at any time here: https://www.canadahelps.org/en/pages/saving-the-birds/

Ooohhh you are close to Annan on Georgian Bay (near Owen Sound) where I go to stay with friends! I am in Toronto now, though, and you will be here soon!!! Let's meet somewhere - maybe ride down the Don Valley to see the magnificent fall colours and/or the Martin Goodman trail on the lakeshore?
