On Friday we hit the Coquihalla Summit Recreation Area. Today we learned about it. We found out that it had two massifs and four biogeoclimatics zones. The biogeoclimatic zones are: Coastal Western Hemlock, Mountain Hemlock, Englemann Spruce - Subalpine Fir and Alpine Tundra.
In the Alpine Tundra you can find krumholz. Krumholz are stunted trees. That means they don't grow as tall as they normally would, because of the climate they are growing in. Krumholz in Coquihalla Summit Recreation Area often include western hemlock, subalpine fir and Englemann spruce. The massifs are Needle Peak Ridge massif and Zopkios Ridge massif. A massif is a bunch of connected mountain peaks.
In this photo: on the left Ring-necked duck, and 5 Ruddy ducks.
Current km: 469 km from Tofino.
Did you find snow along the Coquihalla?
Now I get it! Massive = massif and crumb holes = krumholz!
