On the weekend we attended an event about owls in Campbell Valley Regional Park. There was a Northern Spotted Owl there from the Northern Spotted Owl Breeding Program. Her name is Small Eyes, she has bilateral microphthalmia. It means she has smaller than usual eyes, which makes it hard for her to see, so she was taken out of the breeding program and now she is an educational owl. There is a breeding program for Northern Spotted Owls because they are very endangered.
At the event we also got to dissect an owl pellet. Mine had 2 skulls and 6 lower jaw bones and an intact rib. I destroyed the intact rib.
We are 4419 km from Tofino.
This picture is of the Northern Spotted Owl named Small Eyes.
Reminder we have a fundraiser going with Tru Earth for Birds Canada, 20% of orders placed with this link will come to us to be donated to Birds Canada.
